Principal Design Engineer (AI Infrastructure)

Location: Denver, Colorado, United States; on-site

Salary: $200,000–$240,000 per year plus bonus; restricted stock units included.

What you will do

• Own the full-lifecycle engineering design of the Spark modular data center product line.
• Lead medium- and low-voltage electrical architecture, structural enclosure design, and thermal management for direct liquid cooling and CDU systems.
• Apply design-for-manufacturing practices to optimize engineering packages for high-volume production.
• Develop and improve factory acceptance testing protocols for electrical distribution, protection, UPS performance, and structural integrity.
• Manage external design firms and specialty consultants, including scope, deliverable quality, budget, and schedule accountability.
• Maintain drawings, specifications, BOMs, and interface control documents for manufacturing hand-off.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in data center design, modular infrastructure, or industrial power systems.
• 10+ years of experience managing external design engineering partners with budget and schedule accountability.
• Expertise in medium-voltage power distribution, structural analysis for containerized systems, heat transfer, and seismic and wind load calculations.
• Knowledge of NFPA 70E, arc flash hazard analysis, and UL and CE compliance requirements.
• Proficiency with CAD/BIM platforms, electrical single-line design tools, and/or thermal simulation software.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree and an active Professional Engineer license.
• Experience with physical-layer requirements for HPC and large-scale AI workloads.
• Experience with certification strategies for modular electrical equipment across multiple jurisdictions.
• Experience scaling physical products from prototype through high-volume production.
