Staff ML Systems Engineer (AI/ML)

Location: Sunnyvale, California, United States; hybrid with attendance at a specific location at least three times per week. Travel up to 25% may be required. The role may be eligible for relocation benefits.

Salary: $171,700–$303,900 annually, plus bonus potential.

What you will do

• Define the platform vision and incremental roadmap for data-labeling engineering.
• Own technical projects from problem framing and design through implementation and production rollout.
• Collaborate with ML Engineering, Operations, Product, Data Science, and platform teams to create workflows, APIs, and user interfaces.
• Build automation, efficiency dashboards, auto-QA, and autolabel review tools to improve data quality and reduce model iteration time.
• Integrate ML-driven annotation, including pre-labeling, autolabeling, and active-learning loops.
• Develop scalable, high-performance full-stack experiences and services, while using AI-assisted engineering workflows.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience building robust distributed platforms and applications.
• Hands-on experience using AI tools for agentic workflows, documentation, debugging, operational triage, and delivery.
• Proficiency with scalable full-stack development using Python, TypeScript, Go, React, SQL, Redux, gRPC, GraphQL, WebGL, or similar technologies.
• Strong understanding of scalable system design, data modeling, and API/interface design.
• Strong fundamentals in object-oriented design, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, TDD, observability, CI/CD, and engineering best practices.
• Experience shipping and operating production features, communicating trade-offs, and collaborating across functions.

Nice to have

• Experience with computer vision, machine learning, data-centric AI, data annotation, or autolabeling workflows.
• Familiarity with data-labeling platforms, annotation interfaces, workflow engines, or quality systems for large workforces.
• Experience with A/B testing, telemetry, observability, data-intensive applications, or visualization-heavy products.
• Collaboration experience with customers, product managers, designers, or user-experience researchers.
