What you will do

  • Design, build, deploy, calibrate, and commission plasma diagnostic systems for fusion generators.
  • Operate and troubleshoot diagnostics used to measure plasma density, temperature, current profiles, and other performance indicators.
  • Support experimental campaigns and testbeds in collaboration with plasma physics, machine operations, controls, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and data science teams.
  • Develop hands-on expertise in pre-ionization plasma diagnostics and establish consistent methods for next-generation fusion devices.
  • Analyze diagnostic data to identify trends and inform operational tuning, hardware improvements, and follow-up testing.
  • Document experimental procedures, calibration methods, test results, and lessons learned.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in physics, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related discipline focused on plasma science, diagnostics, or high-vacuum instrumentation.
  • Hands-on experience with plasma systems, advanced laboratory environments, high-vacuum systems, pulsed-power systems, or complex experimental hardware.
  • Experience designing, building, calibrating, troubleshooting, or operating plasma diagnostics such as interferometry, spectroscopy, Langmuir probes, magnetic coils, electrostatic diagnostics, or optical diagnostics.
  • Ability to work autonomously on technical tasks, apply critical thinking, and escalate technical risks or tradeoffs appropriately.
  • Ability to work on-site at the Everett, Washington office.
