Staff Software Engineer, Routing (C++)

Location: Mountain View, California (HQ)

Salary: $213,480–$319,720 base pay annually, plus annual performance bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Build and scale backend systems and onboard modules for the Routing team.
• Design microservices and optimize routing algorithms for safe, efficient journeys and accurate ETAs.
• Work with road-network graphs, map data, and scalable traffic infrastructure.
• Build monitoring, analytics, developer tooling, and deployment pipeline improvements.
• Collaborate with product, strategy, operations, design, and engineering stakeholders on product requirements and roadmap decisions.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience building and scaling real-time server-side applications.
• Experience solving large-scale algorithmic problems and balancing correctness with performance.
• Proficiency in C++ programming.
• Experience with relational and non-relational databases, data warehouses, RPC frameworks, pub/sub systems, and cloud providers.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes, or willingness to learn.
• Strong communication skills and experience collaborating with product managers, UX researchers, engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience with routing algorithms, map data, and graph data structures.
• Experience training and inferencing machine learning models.
• Experience with robotics.
• Experience with ETA modeling.
