Tools Developer/Hardware Engineer (BESS)

Location: Remote within the United States, including California. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

What you will do

• Design and maintain Python applications, automation scripts, diagnostic tools, and monitoring solutions for the Battery Energy Storage System fleet.
• Build Grafana dashboards, visualizations, alerts, and observability frameworks for proactive detection of hardware, software, communication, and network issues.
• Develop tools that collect, process, analyze, and present operational data from DAS, OS7, Linux servers, network infrastructure, and edge systems.
• Support root cause analysis, customer escalations, factory acceptance testing, commissioning, field investigations, and fleet reliability initiatives.
• Diagnose hardware issues using electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, assembly drawings, and hardware documentation.
• Support hardware upgrades, spare-parts lifecycle management, corrective actions, service bulletins, repair instructions, and cross-functional reliability improvements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of experience in software development, automation, systems engineering, observability, or operational technology environments.
• Strong Python development skills, including scripting, automation, data processing, and application development.
• Hands-on Linux and Ubuntu administration and troubleshooting experience.
• Production experience with monitoring, diagnostic, or observability tools, Grafana dashboards, data visualization, and alert management.
• Experience with REST APIs, data integrations, networking fundamentals, communication protocols, Git, and software development lifecycle practices.

Nice to have

• Experience with utility-scale BESS, OS7, DAS, SCADA, PLC communications, industrial networking, Modbus, telemetry, or edge computing.
• Knowledge of Docker, virtualization, cloud-hosted monitoring, SQL, time-series databases, cybersecurity, and secure system deployment.
• Experience building fleet-wide observability or predictive maintenance solutions for critical infrastructure.
