Embedded Linux Engineer (Robotics)

Salary: $200,000–$280,000 per year plus equity

What you will do

• Own NEO’s embedded Linux foundation from the BSP and kernel through the distribution, provisioning, and OTA update systems.
• Ship a production-grade Yocto-based Linux distribution with reproducible builds, deterministic startup, and dependable release artifacts.
• Develop kernels and production device drivers, manage device trees, and enable peripherals across evolving hardware platforms.
• Build fleet tooling for provisioning, flashing, and reliable OTA updates with rollback and partial-update support.
• Develop CI/CD pipelines for embedded images and kernel builds to detect regressions before hardware deployment.
• Take platform ownership from prototype bring-up through production hardening and fleet-scale operation.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience shipping embedded Linux systems in production, including BSP, kernel customization, and distribution ownership.
• Production device-driver development experience and expertise with Yocto or Buildroot.
• Kernel-level debugging skills, including kernel tracing tools, serial consoles, and crash capture.
• Experience designing and operating OTA update systems for embedded fleets under real-world network conditions.
• Experience taking hardware platforms from early prototypes through high-volume production.
• Background in robotics, autonomous vehicles, or other physical systems.

Nice to have

• Experience with PREEMPT_RT or low-latency Linux kernel configuration for robotics or industrial applications.
• Familiarity with I2C, SPI, CAN, USB, Ethernet, and PCIe.
• Ability to read hardware schematics and connect software symptoms to hardware root causes.
