Backend Engineer (AI)

Location: Vilnius or Kaunas, Lithuania (Hybrid model: 2 days in office recommended)

Salary: €3,558 – €4,808 gross per month

What you will do

• Design and ship features for the customer support chatbot to resolve member issues without agent intervention.
• Contribute to LLM-powered automation, including retrieval over help content and tool-calling into internal services.
• Build and maintain backend systems capable of handling high volumes of messages with low latency.
• Extract domain logic from the existing monolith into independently deployable services.
• Support code in production using OpenTelemetry, Grafana, Datadog, and Kibana.
• Collaborate with the team through pairing, design discussions, and code reviews.

Requirements

• Several years of experience building and operating backend systems in production.
• Proficiency in a high-level language with the ability to learn new ones (Go and Ruby experience is a plus).
• Experience with systems where latency and reliability are critical.
• Interest in LLM-powered product platforms, including evaluation, guardrails, and failure modes.
• Clear written and spoken English communication skills.
• Must be based in or able to work from Vilnius or Kaunas, Lithuania.
