Senior Reality Capture & Sensor Payload Engineer, Robotics Hardware (Robotics)

Location: Fully onsite at the Irvine, California office

Salary: $150,000–$200,000 per year, plus benefits and equity

What you will do

• Select and evaluate LiDAR, depth, GNSS/RTK, PTZ, thermal, and gas-detection sensors for customer applications.
• Design and integrate plug-and-play sensor payload modules with mechanical and electrical engineering teams.
• Own multi-sensor calibration, boresight alignment, and timing synchronization using PTP and PPS.
• Build pipelines that produce registered, georeferenced point clouds and photogrammetric reconstructions.
• Validate sensor performance through point-cloud analysis, repeatability checks, vibration and shock testing, and lighting tests.
• Coordinate across Product, Autonomy, Insights, Mechanical, and Electrical teams while mentoring junior engineers and contributing to the hardware roadmap.

Requirements

• B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
• Typically 9+ years of engineering experience in a senior to staff-level role.
• Strong breadth across mechanical design, electrical design, sensor hardware, and electromechanical integration.
• Experience with mounting, enclosures, IP ratings, connectors, and ruggedized sensor payloads.
• Working knowledge of point-cloud and signal processing for evaluating hardware and software solutions.
• Strong systems-level communication, optimization, and engineering leadership or mentoring experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with LiDAR, gas detection, thermal imaging, PTZ cameras, or custom multicamera systems.
• Field robotics experience in construction, manufacturing, industrial, mining, or oil and gas environments.
• Knowledge of point-cloud registration, photogrammetry, digital twins, BIM, deviation detection, or change analysis.
• Experience with FARO, Leica, Trimble, or related reality-capture hardware and software.
• Experience taking sensor or perception work from research and algorithm development through production deployment.
