Senior Engineering Manager, SDN Control Plane

Location: On-site in San Francisco, Bellevue, or Sunnyvale, United States

Salary: $250,000–$300,000 annually plus bonus and restricted stock units

What you will do

• Define the roadmap and technical direction for the VPC networking control plane.
• Lead the evolution of network virtualization systems such as OVN and OVS supporting VPCs, subnets, security groups, load balancing, NAT, and internet or hybrid connectivity.
• Oversee distributed control-plane services for intent APIs, state reconciliation, network policy compilation, and host and DPU programming.
• Drive scalability, reliability engineering, convergence and API-latency benchmarking, regression prevention, and incident response.
• Mentor senior and staff-level distributed-systems engineers and establish technical standards.
• Partner with data-plane and cloud product teams to deliver low-latency, highly available networking for multi-tenant GPU clusters.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in distributed systems or cloud networking engineering.
• 5–7+ years of experience managing senior or staff-level engineering talent.
• Deep knowledge of SDN, network virtualization, overlay networking, VXLAN or Geneve, VPC constructs, BGP or EVPN, and OVN, OVS, or equivalent control-plane architectures.
• Hands-on experience building large-scale control planes involving state reconciliation, consensus and consistency trade-offs, API design, and fleet-wide configuration propagation.
• Experience with Go, Kubernetes-style controllers, or similar technologies.
• Strong understanding of SLOs, convergence-time and scale benchmarking, graceful degradation, and blast-radius containment in multi-tenant cloud services.

Nice to have

• Experience with DPU or SmartNIC-programmed data planes, cloud load balancing or NAT at scale, and network security policy engines.
• Open-source contributions to OVN, OVS, or other SDN projects.
