Junior OT/ICS Lab Engineer (Cybersecurity)

Location: United States; remote-first role

What you will do

• Build, configure, and maintain lab environments that simulate real-world OT operational scenarios.
• Set up and manage PLCs, RTUs, HMIs, industrial devices, sensors, data collection tools, and monitoring infrastructure.
• Execute test plans to validate platform capabilities against simulated OT threats and normal operational activity.
• Collect network traffic, device behavior, and telemetry data to support threat research and product development.
• Reproduce reported issues and edge cases in controlled lab environments and participate in threat scenario validation.
• Troubleshoot infrastructure, connectivity, and device configuration issues while supporting teams using OT lab resources.

Requirements

• Strong networking fundamentals, including the OSI model, TCP/IP, subnetting, routing, firewalls, and network protocols.
• Hands-on experience with lab or test environments and familiarity with VMware, Hyper-V, KVM, or containerization.
• Basic understanding of IT infrastructure and security concepts, with command-line comfort in Linux or Windows.
• Ability to follow technical documentation, troubleshoot systematically, and learn OT protocols and operational technology fundamentals.
• Ability to perform basic fabrication and panel building, including mounting panels to engineering drawings and wiring devices and components.
• Ability to document lab configurations, system topologies, procedures, runbooks, and training materials.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Modbus, Ethernet/IP, Profibus, DNP3, SCADA, or HMI systems.
• Experience with Wireshark, tcpdump, protocol decoding, PLCs, industrial IoT devices, or control system engineering.
• Electrical troubleshooting experience, cybersecurity certifications or coursework, and familiarity with NIST, NERC CIP, or IEC 62443.
• Experience in critical infrastructure or manufacturing environments.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
