TL;DR
Research Robotics/Computer Vision Engineer (3D Computer Vision/Robotics): Building perceptive and adaptable robotic systems for safe exploration, autonomous navigation, 3D reconstruction, and robot manipulation with an accent on SLAM, visual localization, and learning-based perception. Focus on optimizing pose-graph mapping, developing visual servoing and generative reconstruction methods, and maintaining camera- and lidar-based navigation infrastructure.

Location: San Mateo, California, United States

Base salary: $250,000–$300,000 USD per year

What you will do

  • Implement robot perception for safe exploration and autonomous navigation in collaboration with the locomotion team.
  • Reconstruct 3D scenes from monocular images, estimate camera poses, and optimize 3D SLAM systems.
  • Develop visual localization tools and robust lifelong mapping using merged pose graphs.
  • Use visual servoing to control robot motion around detected and tracked objects.
  • Research techniques for handling glare and limited viewpoints in robotic mapping and navigation.
  • Build data infrastructure for streaming hand movements to train robot manipulation tasks and maintain camera- and 2D lidar-based navigation deployments.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Vision, Robotics, or a directly related discipline.
  • At least one year of experience in Machine Learning or Data Science; concurrent experience is accepted.
  • Experience reconstructing 3D scenes and rigid or articulated hand-held objects from videos using meshes, point clouds, Neural Radiance Fields, and Gaussian Splats.
  • Knowledge of generative computer vision, including diffusion models, data-driven priors, occlusion handling, and limited-view reconstruction.
  • Experience optimizing attention-based perception models and using Neural Architectural Search for autonomous navigation systems.
  • Experience with cloud-based distributed deep learning training in AWS, Google Cloud, or Vertex AI, including optimized data loading and hardware-in-the-loop workflows.
