Principal ML Engineer (Generative AI)

Location: Must be based in or able to commute to Palo Alto, CA (Hybrid: 3 days/week in-office)

Salary: $230,000–$260,000 per year

What you will do

• Define and drive the long-term technical vision for generative AI across the product ecosystem.
• Lead the architecture and design of scalable ML platforms for training, evaluation, and inference.
• Drive company-level ML strategy, aligning technical investments with business priorities.
• Architect large-scale generative AI systems powering agentic orchestration and multimodal content generation.
• Mentor senior engineers and elevate engineering excellence across the organization.
• Identify and incubate high-impact 0→1 opportunities in generative AI.

Requirements

• 15+ years of experience building and scaling machine learning systems at the Principal level.
• Master’s or PhD degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Proven track record of driving multi-team or company-level technical strategy.
• Deep expertise in ML systems, infrastructure, Generative AI, LLMs, and multimodal systems.
• Proficiency in Python and systems-level programming (C/C++ or equivalent).
• Must be able to work in a hybrid capacity from the Palo Alto, CA office.

Nice to have

• Experience building ML platforms used across multiple products or teams.
• Prior role as a Staff+ or Principal engineer at a leading AI or technology company.
• Contributions to the field through publications, patents, or open-source projects.
• Experience in enterprise SaaS or high-growth startup environments.
