Platform Engineer (AI/Biology)

What you will do

• Own the self-service data and storage layer for large multimodal biological datasets, including provisioning, access, and lifecycle management.
• Build internal platform services and paved roads that enable researchers and engineers to access and process data without routine infrastructure tickets.
• Design storage infrastructure and reproducible data workflows using object stores, relational databases, and modern formats such as Parquet, Delta, and Iceberg.
• Extend Terraform-based infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines so the data platform remains reproducible and consistently deployed.
• Implement access control, data classification, and least-privilege security directly in code.
• Work with the platform organization to productize reusable capabilities while keeping one-off experiments separate.

Requirements

• 3–5+ years of production platform or infrastructure experience with a high degree of ownership.
• Proficiency with Terraform, Kubernetes, Helm, and containers.
• Working knowledge of object stores, relational databases, modern storage formats, and data workflows.
• Familiarity with data orchestration tools such as Dagster, Airflow, or Prefect.
• Solid software engineering skills in Python or a comparable language.
• Experience implementing access control and least-privilege security in code, plus a platform-as-a-product mindset.

Nice to have

• Experience running ML or AI training and inference workloads or supporting AI-driven workflows.
• Experience with biological or medical data standards such as DICOM, FHIR, omics, or whole-slide images.
• Experience with AWS data and ML services or high-throughput storage such as WEKA, VAST, or CEPH.
• Background in pharma, biotech, healthcare, regulated-data environments, or open-source projects.
