Legal Counsel, Product (Fintech)

Location: London, Cardiff, or remote anywhere in the UK

Salary: circa £76,000 per year, plus performance-linked incentive awards and benefits

What you will do

• Provide legal advice to product teams developing and growing personal and business banking, borrowing, and payments products.
• Triage product legal queries, resolve matters where possible, and escalate complex issues to senior lawyers when required.
• Advise on legal and regulatory requirements, product changes, regulated financial promotions, and product governance.
• Identify legal and regulatory risks, assess commercial and operational impacts, and recommend effective solutions.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Risk, Compliance, Operations, Financial Crime, Fraud, and Supplier Operations teams.
• Support global product development by identifying local legal and regulatory requirements with EU teams and external counsel.

Requirements

• Qualified lawyer or soon to qualify, with experience in banking and finance.
• Experience advising on banking products, payments, financial services laws, and regulations including BCOBS and the Payment Services Regulations.
• Experience advising on regulated financial promotions and supporting marketing teams with financial product matters.
• Ability to provide clear, precise, practical legal advice and explain complex regulations simply.
• Strong organisational, communication, problem-solving, risk assessment, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work independently across multiple projects in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
