TL;DR
Data Coordinator (Scientific Data) (Oceanographic and environmental data): Organizing, documenting, curating, and preserving datasets for partner organizations across interdisciplinary research projects with an accent on metadata standards, FAIR and CARE Principles, and data lifecycle support. Focus on developing data products, supporting scientific data portals, training researchers, and coordinating delivery schedules across multiple projects.
Location: Hybrid in Anchorage, Alaska, or remote within Alaskan, Hawaii-Aleutian, or Pacific regional time zones in the United States. Travel of up to 5% annually may be required.

What you will do
- Organize, document, curate, and preserve oceanographic and environmental datasets.
- Apply standardized data and metadata formats to make datasets analysis-ready and suitable for long-term preservation.
- Develop and maintain data and metadata delivery schedules across multiple research projects and partners.
- Support the recovery, manipulation, and documentation of historical datasets.
- Provide support for data portals and data management tools, and participate in data product development.
- Train researchers, funders, and program staff on data management practices through meetings, workshops, and demonstrations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science, Marine Sciences, Wildlife Biology, Environmental Science, or a related scientific discipline.
- Entry-level candidates may be considered with relevant coursework and internship experience.
- Knowledge of responsible data management practices and formats such as CSV and NetCDF.
- Knowledge of scientific metadata standards including ISO, EML, Darwin Core, CF Conventions, and ACDD.
- Ability to synthesize technical information, communicate clearly with varied audiences, work independently, and manage multiple priorities.
- Familiarity with data management, visualization, metadata authoring, Python or R, and software development or agile environments.
Nice to have
- Experience collecting data for scientific research projects or programs.
- Experience publishing open data products.
- Experience with platforms and tools such as DataONE, NCEI, EDI, Dataverse, Dryad, or Zenodo.
