Software Engineer, Level 3 (Backend)

Location: United States — Bellevue, Los Angeles, New York, Palo Alto, San Francisco, or Seattle. Office work is expected 4+ days per week under hirify.global’s “default together” policy.

What you will do

• Design, implement, and operate critical scalable backend services, including user identity, friend graph, and core persistence systems.
• Work across teams to understand product requirements, evaluate trade-offs, and deliver backend solutions.
• Test and debug implementations while maintaining high engineering quality.
• Apply best practices for availability, scalability, operational excellence, and cost management.
• Participate in incident or hotfix investigations and resolutions when needed.

Requirements

• Experience with backend services or distributed systems.
• Ability to independently deliver medium-sized features across multiple pull requests.
• Experience understanding and operating production systems.
• Experience operating highly available systems at significant scale.
• BS/BA degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
• Industry experience with Java, Kotlin, Swift, Python, C++, or another standard programming language.

Nice to have

• Experience with NoSQL, Memcache, Redis, Kubernetes, or Google/AWS services.
• Experience with large-scale microservices, distributed systems, cloud computing and storage, infrastructure design, security, networking, or data storage.
