Staff AI Engineer (Healthcare)

Location: New York City office, United States; hybrid schedule with 3 days in-office per week, including Thursdays

Salary: $198,720–$260,820 per year, plus equity grants and annual performance bonuses

What you will do

• Lead the design, development, and deployment of AI-driven products from zero-to-one prototypes through production systems.
• Build and scale full-stack applications and intelligent agents that automate complex healthcare workflows.
• Experiment with LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation, agentic workflows, and emerging AI technologies.
• Collaborate with product, design, and business teams to understand user needs and deliver measurable outcomes.
• Contribute to AI strategy and technical vision while mentoring engineers and improving engineering quality.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional experience in software engineering, data science, or a related field.
• 5+ years leading cross-functional deliverables, technical contributions, and technical teams.
• Strong Python programming skills and practical application of computer science concepts.
• Experience setting standards for stable, correct, and maintainable code.
• Experience solving complex ambiguous problems and designing or analyzing experiments and evaluations.
• Experience or interest in prototyping full-stack applications.

Nice to have

• Healthcare industry experience and familiarity with claims or clinical data.
• Experience with NLP, neural networks, transformers, and modern AI frameworks.
• Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, React, or Golang.
• Degree in mathematics, statistics, data science, or engineering.
• Experimental mindset with comfort testing hypotheses and iterating on failures.
