Applied AI Engineer

Location: Must currently reside in, or be willing to relocate to, Louisville, Dallas, Boston, New York City, or Washington, DC, and be able to work onsite as needed.

Salary: $142,300–$195,700 per year, plus eligibility for a bonus incentive plan.

What you will do

• Design, build, deploy, and operate production AI services using LLMs, RAG, and agentic workflows.
• Architect scalable, well-tested REST APIs and backend systems for downstream applications.
• Build data and inference pipelines for large datasets and model outputs.
• Own reliability, performance, cost, observability, logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, and evaluations.
• Drive code review, testing, CI/CD, documentation, and secure-by-default engineering practices.
• Partner with data scientists and engineers while evaluating new LLM, agent, and AI infrastructure capabilities.

Requirements

• Residence or relocation to Louisville, Dallas, Boston, New York City, or Washington, DC is required, with onsite work as needed.
• Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline with at least 5 years of software engineering experience, or a relevant master’s degree with at least 3 years of experience.
• At least 5 years of experience developing production Python applications and services.
• Strong API and system design, testing, debugging, distributed systems, Git, and software engineering fundamentals.
• Experience with FastAPI or Flask, RESTful APIs, authentication, cloud platforms, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD.
• Production LLM integration experience, including prompt design, tool or function calling, evaluation, cost and latency tuning, and day-to-day use of agentic AI coding tools.

Nice to have

• Production experience with agentic or RAG-based systems, retrieval, tool use, memory, and evaluations.
• Distributed systems, event-driven architectures, streaming platforms, or Kafka experience.
• Familiarity with LangChain, LlamaIndex, Pydantic AI, OpenTelemetry, LangSmith, Arize, Terraform, or Pulumi.
• Experience working in collaborative, fast-moving environments with strong problem-solving skills.
