Mechanical Ground Systems Engineer (f/m/d) (Aerospace)

Location: Ottobrunn, Bavaria, Germany. Travel to construction and test sites is required for on-site coordination.

What you will do

• Own mechanical and structural subsystems within larger ground systems projects.
• Manage subsystem requirements, stakeholder interfaces, and engineering change requests.
• Design, calculate, simulate, and iterate ground equipment using CAD and engineering tools.
• Create manufacturing and integration drawings, bills of materials, and technically manufacturable designs.
• Select and procure suitable hardware, conduct design reviews and risk assessments, and document technical decisions.
• Support subsystem integration, testing, troubleshooting, commissioning, and on-site coordination.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or an equivalent field.
• 3–5 years of relevant professional experience.
• Knowledge of structural and mechanical engineering for heavy steel structures and mechanisms, including kinematics, engagement mechanisms, levers, and actuation.
• Strong practical experience with Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, Siemens NX, or similar 3D CAD software, including GD&T and design for manufacturing and assembly.
• Knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes, with strong analytical and practical problem-solving skills.
• Fluent English required; hands-on experience with integration, testing, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.

Nice to have

• Fluent German.
• Experience with rocket propulsion, aerospace test facilities, or launchpad design.
• Experience with process plant engineering, hydraulic system design, or outdoor and offshore systems.
• Structural, thermal, or vibration analysis using Ansys, NASTRAN, or similar tools.
