TL;DR
NPI Optical Test Engineer (optical test automation): Developing automated calibration, verification, and troubleshooting solutions for high-performance coherent optical modems with an accent on production test systems, optical and RF measurement, and yield optimization. Focus on analyzing failures, identifying root causes, transferring products to high-volume manufacturing, and supporting test development across R&D and manufacturing partners.
Location: Ottawa, Canada; daily attendance at the office is required.
Salary: CAD 77,500–144,500 annually.

What you will do
- Develop and support automated testing for new and existing production lines.
- Provide test tools and technical support to R&D during prototype development.
- Support contract manufacturers with beta prototypes, pre-production builds, and high-volume production testing.
- Analyze production statistics to improve test time, process capability, and yield.
- Lead failure analysis, root-cause identification, and corrective actions for component, subsystem, and field failures.
- Transfer new products into high-volume production across multiple manufacturing sites and document fault-isolation tools and guides.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Optical Engineering, Physics, or Computer Science.
- 5+ years of test automation software development using C#, Python, or MATLAB.
- Experience with optical and RF test equipment, including spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, power meters, and attenuators.
- Strong understanding of high-speed modem components, including coherent driver-modulators, intradyne coherent receivers, semiconductor lasers and amplifiers, and tunable filters.
- Good understanding of production statistics, including Cpk analysis and Pareto analysis.
- Strong troubleshooting, data-driven problem-solving, and communication skills.
Nice to have
- Test engineering experience with offshore production and debug management.
- Experience with Git and Atlassian tools such as Bitbucket, Sourcetree, Jira, and Confluence.
- Fluency in oral and written French.
- Willingness to travel up to 10% outside Canada.
