Pluggable Optical Modems Test Engineer (Optical Communications)

Salary: CAD 77,500–121,000 per year

What you will do

• Execute factory test plans covering functional, performance, and stress testing of legacy and next-generation pluggable optical modems.
• Review, document, and communicate test results and defects to development teams.
• Investigate product issues with senior engineers and contribute to root cause analysis.
• Build and maintain automated test scripts and tools to improve efficiency and reduce test time.
• Collaborate with hardware, software, and firmware engineering teams.

Requirements

• Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field.
• 4+ years of experience in test automation, including code development and hardware troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of optical communication principles and components such as lasers, photodetectors, and optical fiber.
• Experience using laboratory equipment including optical spectrum analyzers and optical power meters.
• Experience with Python, MATLAB, or another scripting language for test automation.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills.

Nice to have

• Object-oriented programming experience.
• Internship or co-op experience in engineering or hardware testing.
• Exposure to automated test frameworks or continuous integration workflows.
• Familiarity with optical networking standards or emerging industry technologies.
