TL;DR
Senior Embedded Linux Platform Engineer (F/M/D) (Embedded Linux): Building and maintaining the Linux platform layer for mobile mapping devices with an accent on OS lifecycle management, hardware abstraction, system services, and sensor integration. Focus on kernel-userspace integration, camera and media pipelines, graphics and NPU libraries, OTA updates, and reliable operation of ROS-based mapping software.

Location: Munich, Germany; onsite role. The benefits also mention flexible hours and a hybrid work setup. Full visa and relocation support is available for international candidates.

Company

hirify.global develops mobile mapping systems and digital factory solutions that capture built environments as photorealistic digital twins.

What you will do

  • Own the lifecycle of Debian and Ubuntu images for amd64 and ARM, including builds, packaging, releases, OS updates, dual-boot, and OTA mechanisms.
  • Integrate kernel patches, hardware abstraction layers, drivers, applications, and kernel-dependent userspace libraries.
  • Build and maintain D-Bus system daemons, platform utilities, diagnostics, and field-debugging tools.
  • Own camera and media userspace integration through V4L2, image formats, controls, and OpenCV-level fixes.
  • Develop GNSS and sensor modules covering protocol parsing, interfaces, NTRIP forwarding, and precise timestamping.
  • Maintain CI, hardware-in-the-loop, and stress testing for the ROS-based mapping platform.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional embedded Linux development, preferably on ARM-based platforms.
  • Strong production experience with C and C++, plus solid Python for tooling, scripting, and automation.
  • Hands-on experience reading kernel code, applying kernel patches, and debugging across the kernel-userspace boundary using sysfs and udev.
  • Experience building Debian or Ubuntu images, managing OS lifecycles, packaging, update or OTA mechanisms, and reproducible build pipelines.
  • Experience with Linux userspace platforms, including system daemons, D-Bus or comparable IPC, systemd, packaging, and platform tooling.
  • Clear communication in English is required for collaboration across embedded software, sensors, calibration, and application teams.

Nice to have

  • ROS or comparable robotics middleware experience in C++ and Python environments.
  • Hardware-in-the-loop testing, performance evaluation, or latency analysis experience.
  • Camera and sensor systems, PTP, timestamping, device provisioning, or image-based production deployment experience.
  • Yocto, Buildroot, or open-source contributions to the Linux, Debian, Ubuntu, V4L2, Mesa, or ROS ecosystems.

Culture & Benefits

  • 30 days of paid time off per year.
  • Flexible working hours and a hybrid work setup are offered alongside the Munich onsite location.
  • Full visa and relocation support for international candidates.
  • Fitness and wellness subsidy, Deutschlandticket subsidy, bike leasing, and local language class support.
  • International and diverse environment with more than 300 employees from around 60 nationalities.

Hiring process

  • Initial screening call followed by up to four interview rounds.
  • Interviews cover technical experience, interests, and potential mutual fit.
