Mechanical Engineer - Hydraulics (Aerospace): Supporting the development, analysis, testing, and validation of hydraulic and electro-hydraulic systems for aerospace applications with an accent on solenoid valves, hydraulic components, test data analysis, and engineering modelling. Focus on developing calculations in MATLAB and Mathcad, troubleshooting system issues, and building evidence-based technical recommendations across the product development lifecycle.

Location: Kent (Gillingham), United Kingdom; hybrid work with three days per week on site. BPSS security clearance is required.

What you will do

  • Support the development and analysis of hydraulic and electro-hydraulic systems for aerospace applications.
  • Evaluate solenoid valves, hydraulic components, and system performance.
  • Process and interpret test data to support engineering investigations and product validation.
  • Develop engineering calculations and analytical models using MATLAB and Mathcad.
  • Support laboratory and system-level testing, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
  • Prepare technical reports and collaborate with design, systems, and test teams.

Requirements

  • Ability to work in Kent (Gillingham) in a hybrid arrangement with three days per week on site.
  • BPSS security clearance is required, or candidates must be able to complete the clearance process.
  • Two to five years of engineering experience with hydraulic systems.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.
  • Strong understanding of solenoid valves, electro-hydraulic components, engineering analysis, and product validation.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB and Mathcad, with strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and technical reporting skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience in aerospace, defence, or other highly regulated industries.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic actuation systems and control technologies.
  • Experience with requirements verification, validation, system modelling, and simulation.
