BIOS Senior/Lead Software Engineer (Firmware)

Location: Vancouver, BC, Canada

Salary: CAD 120,000–195,000 base pay per year across Canada, plus potential bonuses, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, develop, integrate, and maintain low-level CPU firmware, BIOS, and boot loader software.
• Bring up, validate, and qualify new CPU boards and related components with hardware and vendor teams.
• Develop automated tests in C, C++, and Python to validate firmware features and system reliability.
• Track Linux kernel and open-source BIOS developments, contributing relevant features upstream.
• Debug customer and system-test issues, delivering fixes for low-level software problems.
• Provide technical leadership, own projects from definition through deployment, and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

• BS with 8+ years of experience, MS with 6+ years, PhD with 3+ years, or equivalent experience in computer science or electrical/computer engineering.
• Expert-level C programming experience; practical knowledge of C++ and Python is desirable.
• Professional experience developing CPU firmware, BIOS, and boot loader software, including new CPU board bring-up.
• Hands-on troubleshooting and debugging experience with low-level firmware and boot software.
• Familiarity with Linux kernel architecture, IP networking, modern software engineering practices, and x86 and ARM architectures.
• Strong software design, problem-solving, communication, documentation, and independent collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Linux kernel design and implementation.
• Understanding of IP networking architecture, design, and principles.
• Knowledge of C++ and Python beyond automated test development.
