Software Engineer - Frameworks (Backend)

Location: Somerville, Massachusetts, United States; hybrid work with at least 3 days per week in the office.

Salary: $130,000–$180,000 per year.

What you will do

• Write, maintain, and test clean, efficient backend code aligned with project specifications.
• Design abstractions and libraries that bridge software engineering and DevOps.
• Work with internal engineering users to identify productivity bottlenecks and prioritize improvements.
• Partner with Product and Engineering to build tooling that teams adopt and use effectively.
• Create and maintain technical documentation that supports engineer self-service.
• Use AI-assisted tools and automation to improve developer productivity, accelerate troubleshooting, and strengthen platform reliability.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience building and shipping complex backend systems.
• Strong skills in at least one modern backend programming language.
• Working knowledge of relational and non-relational databases.
• Solid understanding of cloud-native or cloud-hybrid solutions.
• Product mindset for internal tooling, including gathering feedback and iterating on developer needs.
• Comfort using AI-powered engineering tools such as Claude, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot.

Nice to have

• Experience with Node, Go, TypeScript, React, RabbitMQ, MongoDB, Postgres, or AWS.
• Experience developing developer-experience tools, CI/CD pipelines, or containerized deployments with Docker and Kubernetes.
• End-to-end ownership of side projects or personal products.
