Software Engineer - Frameworks (Backend)

Location: Somerville, Massachusetts; hybrid work with at least 3 days per week in the office

Salary: $130,000–$175,000 per year across US locations

What you will do

• Write, maintain, and test clean, efficient backend code aligned with project specifications.
• Design abstractions and frameworks that bridge software engineering and DevOps.
• Talk with engineers using the platform to identify productivity bottlenecks and prioritize improvements.
• Build internal tooling with Product and Engineering partners that teams will adopt.
• Create technical documentation that enables engineers to self-serve.
• Use AI-assisted tools and automation to improve developer productivity, accelerate troubleshooting, and strengthen platform reliability.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience building and shipping complex backend systems.
• Strong skills in at least one modern backend programming language.
• Working knowledge of relational and non-relational databases.
• Understanding of cloud-native or cloud-hybrid solutions.
• Product mindset for internal tooling and willingness to iterate based on feedback from engineering users.
• Comfort using AI-powered engineering tools such as Claude, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Node, Go, TypeScript, React, RabbitMQ, MongoDB, Postgres, or AWS.
• Experience developing developer-experience tooling.
• Experience building CI/CD pipelines and working with Docker or Kubernetes.
• End-to-end ownership of side projects or personal builds.
