Fitter II

TL;DR

Fitter II (Structural Steel/Welding): Fabricating and fitting steel structures in an on-site production environment with an accent on blueprint interpretation, precision welding, and AWS D1.1 compliance. Focus on producing complete joint penetration welds, operating cranes and welding equipment safely, and training Fitter I employees while maintaining high production quality.

What you will do

• Fit, position, align, and weld steel parts into complete structures using blueprints and layout specifications.
• Produce complete joint penetration welds that pass visual and ultrasonic inspection.
• Operate welding equipment, hand and power tools, grinders, arc gougers, hoists, and cranes.
• Prepare joints according to the AWS D1.1 structural steel welding code and inspect work for defects and dimensional accuracy.
• Maintain safe work practices and support steady production with minimal supervision and rework.
• Train employees in the Fitter I position and contribute to process improvement.

Requirements

• Prior welding experience or certification, plus successful completion of the Welder II test.
• Ability to interpret blueprints and welding symbols and read a tape measure.
• Experience producing high-quality welds across various material types and within defined welding procedures.
• GMAW experience and the ability to set, maintain, and troubleshoot welding equipment.
• Ability to use weld gauges and prepare joints in accordance with AWS D1.1 requirements.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred; experience with cranes or other moving machinery preferred.
