Product Counsel (DeFi)

Location: United States; hybrid work in New York or fully remote within the United States, aligned with the East Coast time zone.

Salary: $210,000–$270,000 USD

What you will do

• Provide product lifecycle legal counsel to DeFi teams from ideation through launch and iteration.
• Advise on DEX routing, aggregation, AMMs, non-custodial wallets, MPC key management, chain abstraction, and self-custody user flows.
• Assess AI agent integrations, autonomous payment flows, user authorization, and emerging financial services regulation.
• Support regulated crypto asset services, including exchange, custody, stablecoin issuance, and card programs.
• Analyze US and international regulatory requirements, licensing conditions, and potential licensing modifications.
• Draft and negotiate protocol integration, API, SDK, liquidity provider, partnership, terms of service, and consumer protection documentation.

Requirements

• JD or equivalent degree and active bar membership in at least one jurisdiction.
• 6+ years of legal experience, including meaningful in-house experience in crypto, DeFi, fintech, or regulated financial services.
• Deep understanding of DEXs, AMMs, smart order routing, non-custodial wallets, MPC key management, and smart contract integrations.
• Strong knowledge of FinCEN money transmission and MSB analysis, SEC securities regulation, CFTC commodity derivatives regulation, and NYDFS requirements.
• Experience advising engineering and product teams throughout the product lifecycle.
• Ability to provide concise, practical advice and make risk-adjusted decisions in ambiguous, fast-paced environments.

Nice to have

• Experience with threshold signatures, AI agent architectures, protocol governance, smart contract audits, or open-source licensing.
• Familiarity with crypto custody regulation, card program frameworks, prediction markets, derivatives, or structured DeFi products.
• Experience launching novel regulated financial services and managing licensing strategies and conditions.
• Experience drafting protocol integration agreements or liquidity provider arrangements.
