TL;DR

Mechanical Engineer 3 (NSSS Vessels & Structures) (Nuclear mechanical design/ANSYS): Designing and evaluating pressure vessels, reactor vessel internals, and primary equipment supports for modular advanced light water reactors with an accent on ASME BPVC Section III compliance, stress analysis, and nuclear quality assurance. Focus on performing finite element, pressure, thermal, fatigue, and seismic analyses while solving complex multidisciplinary design and technical problems.

Location: Remote within the contiguous United States, with national and local travel as required for business needs. Candidates must be eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.

Salary: $108,908–$131,441 annually; full pay range $97,642–$152,722 annually.

What you will do

  • Perform and document design and stress evaluations for NSSS pressure vessels, reactor vessel internals, and primary equipment supports.
  • Analyze pressure, mechanical, thermal, primary, secondary, and fatigue loadings in accordance with ASME BPVC Section III.
  • Use ANSYS finite element software and CAD packages to evaluate and optimize component designs.
  • Interpret project scope and technical requirements and maintain required training qualifications.
  • Coordinate design activities with multidisciplinary engineering teams and resolve technical problems.
  • Apply nuclear quality assurance requirements, including ASME NQA-1 and applicable U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission guidelines.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering, from a four-year ABET-accredited college or university.
  • At least 6 years of relevant full-time professional experience.
  • Hands-on experience using ANSYS for stress analysis under ASME BPVC Section III, Subsections NB, NG, and/or NF.
  • Eligibility to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, organize projects, solve complex problems, and collaborate across disciplines.
  • Ability to travel nationally and locally as required.

Nice to have

  • Advanced engineering degree.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification.
  • Experience with seismic or dynamic analysis.
  • Programming experience with ANSYS APDL, MATLAB, or Python.
