Lead Structural Analyst (Seismic Design)

TL;DR

Lead Structural Analyst (Seismic Design): Developing structural and strength calculations, equipment dimensioning, and design verification for recovery boilers, evaporation plants, and white liquor plants with an accent on seismic requirements, finite element methods, and international engineering standards. Focus on defining project-specific seismic criteria, developing calculation methods and design guidelines, and coordinating technically complex engineering work.

Location: Helsinki or Varkaus, Finland; other hirify.global locations in Finland may also be considered. The role is office-based with flexible remote work opportunities.

What you will do

• Perform structural analysis, strength calculations, equipment dimensioning, and design verification for complex industrial equipment and structures.
• Define project-specific seismic requirements and translate applicable standards into practical design criteria.
• Develop design guidelines, calculation methods, and engineering practices for structural and seismic design.
• Collaborate with mechanical engineering and product development teams on international projects.
• Coordinate technical activities, external engineering partners, and selected project work as a technical lead.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, structural engineering, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of experience in structural analysis and strength calculations.
• Strong knowledge of structural mechanics and finite element methods.
• Experience with FE calculation software; Ansys Workbench is advantageous.
• Experience in seismic design and related standards, with the ability to interpret and apply international project requirements.
• Good spoken and written English skills.

Nice to have

• Technical coordination or engineering leadership experience.
• Pressure equipment or pressure vessel design experience.
• Knowledge of steel structure codes, including Eurocode or AISC.
• Interest in developing calculation methods and sharing engineering knowledge.
