Staff Software Engineer, Claude Code (AI)

Location: San Francisco, New York City, or Seattle, United States; hybrid policy requires staff to work from an office at least 25% of the time.

Salary: $320,000–$625,000 USD annually.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain scalable features and infrastructure for AI-powered development tools.
• Engage with developers to gather insights and improve the user experience.
• Collaborate with researchers to improve model capabilities through shared tools and evaluations.
• Experiment with AI-assisted coding tools, evaluate emerging techniques, and track product enhancements.
• Develop features and fix bugs across front-end interfaces and back-end infrastructure while optimizing performance.
• Work in development environments including Python notebooks, VS Code plug-ins, and containerized systems.

Requirements

• 6+ years of professional experience.
• Expertise in React, including performance optimization, hooks, context, suspense, and component architecture.
• Strong user experience engineering skills with the ability to develop across the full stack.
• Hands-on experience with large language models and prompt engineering.
• Experience building and maintaining developer tools and working in environments with stringent safety, security, or compliance requirements.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent education, training, and experience.

Nice to have

• Experience building and maintaining CLI tools.
• Experience with large codebases and unfamiliar development environments.
• Experience with container orchestration and cloud infrastructure.
• Experience scaling TypeScript projects or working with Bun and Deno.
