Assistant Director, Residence Life

What you will do

• Lead the development, implementation, assessment, and continuous improvement of residence life programs and service standards.
• Directly manage Residence Life Managers and seasonal interns while providing leadership to a broader team of approximately 90 student staff.
• Recruit, onboard, train, coach, and manage the performance of residence life employees and student leaders.
• Serve as case manager for critical residence incidents and coordinate interventions with families, campus services, emergency services, and law enforcement.
• Develop strategic initiatives, budgets, policies, workflows, and operational improvements for the Residence Life portfolio.
• Build partnerships across faculties, student services, community organizations, health services, security, and other university stakeholders.

Requirements

• Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline and five to six years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience leading, coaching, and motivating staff in a service-centred environment; residence life experience is preferred.
• Experience responding to complex student crises and exercising sound judgment in high-risk situations.
• Experience with project planning and management, workflow redesign, program evaluation, and organizational change.
• Strong facilitation, presentation, communication, interpersonal, collaboration, organization, and time-management skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours, respond to after-hours calls, and participate in a 24/7 residence operation.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree.
• Live-in university residence supervisory experience as a Residence Life Manager, Area Director, or equivalent.
• Experience in a 3,000-plus-bed residence system and with student information systems, enterprise databases, or CRM platforms.
• Knowledge of residence life and student services best practices.
