Head of Business Intelligence

TL;DR

Head of Business Intelligence (SQL/dbt): Leading the BI function and building trusted reporting data models, semantic layers, and metric metadata for a machine learning-powered financial products platform with an accent on dimensional modeling, cross-functional alignment, and data quality. Focus on prioritizing shifting stakeholder demands, reviewing complex dbt work, developing BI talent, and creating metric definitions that are reliable for both people and AI.

Location: Remote, US; travel to Asia is expected 3–4 times per year, in addition to twice-yearly company onsites.

Salary: $180K–$220K annually, plus equity and bonus.

What you will do

• Own the BI function end to end, including the team, roadmap, priorities, and quality bar.
• Lead the development of shared reporting data models and the semantic layer across business teams.
• Build and maintain AI- and human-readable metadata, metric definitions, and reference SQL implementations.
• Prioritize competing stakeholder requests and intervene when projects drift or quality declines.
• Review BI and dbt work, maintaining technical standards without taking over execution.
• Grow BI Developers and improve their technical and business fluency.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in data modeling, analytics engineering, or BI.
• 3+ years of direct people management experience.
• Expert-level SQL and strong knowledge of dimensional modeling, semantic layers, dbt, and modern data warehouses.
• Experience building shared reporting models with business stakeholders and managing metric definitions or metadata libraries.
• Ability to prioritize shifting demands, make nimble decisions, and maintain a high quality bar through code review.
• Must be based in the US and able to travel to Asia 3–4 times per year.

Nice to have

• Fluency with AI coding tools.
• Experience making data documentation and metric context readable by both people and AI.
• Experience leading analysts or analytics engineers in a fast-moving environment.
