Senior Engineering Manager (AI Testing): Leading global quality engineering for Kong’s AI Gateway, API Gateway, Event Gateway, and Mesh platforms with an accent on AI-driven automation, high-performance runtime testing, and distributed SDET operations. Focus on designing self-healing test systems, integrating LLMs and autonomous agents, and improving reliability across CI/CD, performance, regression, and chaos testing.
Location: Hybrid in Milan, Italy

What you will do
- Lead, mentor, and grow a geographically distributed SDET organization across North America, Europe, and Asia.
- Define and execute the AI testing strategy using LLMs, generative AI, autonomous agents, synthetic data, and automated prompt loops.
- Own quality strategies for low-latency, high-throughput C, Lua, and Rust data planes.
- Oversee end-to-end, performance, regression, and chaos-testing frameworks integrated with GitHub Actions, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Partner with Software Engineering and Product Management to establish testability standards during architecture and product design.
- Define quality engineering metrics covering automation coverage, CI reliability, defect density, triage time, and release stability.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering or SDET, including building and scaling enterprise test automation systems.
- 4+ years of engineering management experience leading distributed or global software engineering or SDET teams.
- Proven experience applying LLMs, generative AI, or autonomous agent frameworks to software quality or developer workflows.
- Experience with follow-the-sun operations, vendor partnerships, and cross-time-zone execution.
- Direct experience testing high-performance networking data planes, proxies, or API gateways such as , NGINX, or Envoy.
- Background in performance testing, chaos engineering, and load testing for highly available SaaS platforms.
Nice to have
- Active involvement in or contributions to open-source quality frameworks or AI development tooling.
- Experience with Model Context Protocol, agentic tool-calling, or synthetic data generation.
