Research Associate, Battery Performance

TL;DR

Research Associate, Battery Performance (Battery Materials): Conducting battery cell experiments, performance testing, teardowns, and data analysis to improve next-generation lithium-ion battery materials with an accent on test execution, failure analysis, and laboratory documentation. Focus on operating gloveboxes and analytical equipment, troubleshooting testing systems, and generating reliable datasets for high-impact R&D projects.

Location: Onsite in Alameda, California, United States. Regular schedule is Monday–Friday, 9:00am–6:00pm.

Salary: $37.02–$46.63 per hour, with possible overtime.

What you will do

• Conduct experiments on battery cell component integration, analyze results, and collaborate with engineers to optimize cell performance.
• Perform, monitor, and complete specialized battery cell tests according to engineering specifications.
• Carry out systematic cell teardowns in gloveboxes, document internal components, and support failure analysis and root-cause investigations.
• Maintain experimental results, teardown observations, chemical inventories, and test records in centralized data systems.
• Support multiple R&D projects by completing laboratory tasks and meeting research milestones.
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot testing equipment and analytical instrumentation, including chromatography systems.

Requirements

• BS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related scientific discipline; an Associate’s degree with relevant research training may also be considered.
• At least 1 year of laboratory experience; battery research or testing experience is preferred.
• Ability to follow complex SOPs and engineering instructions while maintaining high data quality.
• Experience with electronic systems for tracking materials or test results.
• Strong organization skills and the ability to switch between tasks without compromising data integrity.
• Ability to work onsite in a laboratory, operate in a glovebox for extended periods, pass a respirator fit test when required, and handle items weighing up to 25 lbs with assistance.

Nice to have

• Experience operating analytical equipment, especially chromatography systems.
• Previous experience in a battery research or testing laboratory.
