Data Architect (AWS)

Location: Hybrid (3 days/week in Oakville, Ontario)

Compensation: $165,000 - $210,000 CAD

What you will do

• Define a managed AWS reference architecture to ensure reliability and operational efficiency.
• Specify a layered data model (raw, cleansed, curated) to maintain a high-quality analytical layer and prevent data swamps.
• Establish data governance, including classification, PII handling, access control, lineage, and residency.
• Create reusable engineering patterns for data capture, storage, transformation, and governance to standardize product assembly.
• Design loose coupling from operational systems using change-data-capture or scheduled extracts.
• Directly build data products when the team requires additional delivery support.

Requirements

• Senior data architecture experience with production AWS systems, specifically S3-based lake or lakehouse designs.
• Deep fluency with medallion or layered data architectures and associated governance controls.
• Experience designing semantic data layers to optimize GenAI token consumption and performance.
• Hands-on knowledge of managed AWS services including Glue, Athena, Lake Formation, and DMS.
• Proven experience with data classification and PII handling, ideally within regulated or public sector contexts.
• Location: Must be based in or able to work hybridly (3 days/week) in Oakville, Ontario.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with dbt, warehouse-side modeling (Redshift), and low-code orchestration (n8n).
• Experience with Canadian data residency requirements and multi-region AWS deployments.
• Track record of implementing governance from the start of a project.
