Principal Data Engineer (Energy IoT)

TL;DR

Principal Data Engineer (Python/Snowflake): Designing and implementing software solutions to turn energy IoT devices into grid resources with an accent on data ingestion from utility systems and system architecture. Salary: $180,000 - $220,000 USD

What you will do

• Design and implement software solutions to integrate energy IoT devices into a resilient grid.
• Build systems for ingesting and managing data from core utility software such as AMI, GIS, and SCADA.
• Lead system design and architecture independently, coordinating work across multiple senior engineering teams.
• Develop APIs and tools for hardware manufacturers and third-party software integrations.
• Collaborate with AI/ML teams to optimize virtual power plants and deliver data insights.
• Mentor early and senior career engineers to foster an inclusive and technical team culture.

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional software development experience.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL.
• Extensive experience building data pipelines and ELT/ETL systems.
• Proven ability to lead system design and architecture.
• Experience with data modeling and data warehouses (Snowflake).
• Must have valid US work authorization (sponsorship is not available).

Nice to have

• Experience building data pipelines within an electric utility.
• Familiarity with Airflow, dbt, AWS Kinesis, and S3.
• Knowledge of Java or MongoDB.
• Experience with BI tools like Sigma or Tableau.
