Senior Backend Engineer (Python)

TL;DR

Senior Backend Engineer (Python): Building and optimizing core document workflows, embedding and exporting content, and developing new greenfield systems with an accent on performance and reliability. Focus on optimizing database queries, improving caching layers, and scaling a Django monolith.

Location: Hybrid. Must be based in San Francisco (3 days per week in office)

Salary: $170K – $230K + Equity (Tier 1 cities)

What you will do

• Develop backend features in a Django monolith for document viewing, editing, and exporting.
• Optimize database queries, endpoints, and caching to improve performance and reliability.
• Collaborate with PMs, designers, and frontend engineers to deliver scalable product experiences.
• Contribute to architectural evolution and technical discussions.
• Maintain high engineering standards through code reviews and automated testing.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building high-scale backend applications.
• Extensive proficiency with Python.
• Expertise in endpoint and database query optimization.
• Strong commitment to automated testing and engineering best practices.
• Location: Must be based in San Francisco
