Director of Engineering, Infrastructure (Kubernetes): Owns and scales the infrastructure platform powering autonomous aerospace and defense manufacturing operations with an accent on Kubernetes, reliability, networking, storage, and multi-region architecture. Focus on designing highly available systems, optimizing cloud and on-premise infrastructure, and building a high-performing platform and SRE organization.

Location: On-site in the San Francisco Bay Area or Los Angeles, California. Relocation support may be provided in certain situations. U.S. persons or candidates eligible to obtain the required ITAR authorizations are required.

Salary: $320,000–$380,000 USD

What you will do

• Define and execute infrastructure strategy across compute, networking, and storage.
• Architect and scale Kubernetes platforms for multi-region, highly available workloads.
• Own infrastructure reliability and performance by establishing SLOs, SLIs, and incident response standards.
• Optimize infrastructure costs and efficiency across cloud and on-premise environments.
• Lead and grow a team of 12–15 engineers across platform, SRE, and infrastructure disciplines.
• Partner with DevOps, Developer Experience, Product Engineering, and Security teams while establishing clear ownership boundaries.

Requirements

• 10–15+ years of infrastructure or platform engineering experience, including 5+ years in engineering leadership.
• Deep hands-on expertise in Kubernetes, including cluster architecture, scheduling, scaling, control plane, and day-two operations.
• Strong foundation in compute, networking, distributed systems, and AWS and/or GCP cloud infrastructure.
• Experience with Terraform or equivalent Infrastructure-as-Code tools.
• Proven experience designing reliable, redundant, secure, and failure-resistant systems at high scale.
• U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, protected-individual status, or eligibility to obtain ITAR authorizations is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with service mesh technologies such as Istio or Linkerd.
• Multi-cluster and multi-region orchestration experience.
• Experience operating multi-region deployments, high-QPS systems, or similarly demanding environments.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent hands-on experience.
