Technical Lead USV Automation

TL;DR
Technical Lead USV Automation (PLC/Autopilot): Building robust, scalable, and reusable automation platforms for uncrewed surface vessels with an accent on PLC-based control systems, autopilot, propulsion control, and joystick control. Focus on leading multidisciplinary engineering development, integrating supplier software and marine systems, and ensuring safety, cybersecurity, and marine-standard compliance across multiple USV classes.
Location: Nootdorp, Netherlands; hybrid work with the possibility to work from home in alignment with the manager and corporate policies

What you will do
- Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary engineering team developing PLC-based control systems for USVs.
- Guide the development of autopilot, propulsion control, and joystick control modules.
- Align technical decisions and roadmap priorities with the Product Owner and Project Manager.
- Coordinate with external suppliers, partners, and geographically distributed teams to integrate software components and USV systems.
- Ensure automation platforms are robust, scalable, and reusable across multiple USV classes.
- Drive improvements in development processes, tools, system architecture, sprint planning, code reviews, and technical decision-making.
Requirements
- Degree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field, with 5+ years of experience in industrial automation, embedded systems, or marine control systems.
- Hands-on PLC programming experience with CODESYS, e!COCKPIT, and IEC 61131-3.
- Previous experience in a technical leadership or team lead role.
- Familiarity with NMEA, CAN, Modbus, and MQTT communication protocols.
- Experience with agile methodologies such as Scrum or SAFe, plus hands-on testing, commissioning, or systems integration experience.
- Strong communication, coordination, ownership, and decision-making skills, with the ability to ensure compliance with safety, cybersecurity, and marine standards.
