Principal Software Engineer (Apache Flink/Kafka)

What you will do

• Architect and design a large-scale streaming platform using Apache Flink, Apache Kafka, and AWS.
• Define stream-processing architecture for ingestion, stateful processing, delivery, replay, and downstream integrations.
• Design REST and event-driven APIs, control-plane services, metadata systems, orchestration hooks, and self-serve portal workflows.
• Establish multi-tenant patterns, scalability, reliability, security, observability, and cost-management practices.
• Improve CI/CD, infrastructure as code, testing, progressive delivery, operational runbooks, and production support.
• Lead architecture reviews, mentor engineers, document technical strategies, and align product, platform, data, security, and operations teams.

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience with deep production ownership of distributed systems.
• Expert-level Apache Kafka and Apache Flink experience, including partitioning, consumer groups, state, checkpoints, rescaling, fault tolerance, and performance tuning.
• Strong Java skills and production experience with Spring Boot or equivalent JVM microservices frameworks.
• Hands-on AWS experience across compute, networking, IAM, observability, and container or orchestration platforms.
• Experience with CI/CD, infrastructure management, testing gates, artifact promotion, and operational change.
• Experience delivering internal or user-facing portals and the communication skills to drive consensus across teams.

Nice to have

• Experience building streaming or data platforms used by multiple teams.
• Knowledge of schema governance, serialization formats, compatibility management, MSK, Kinesis, and Kafka/Flink observability.
• Contributions to technical standards, engineering guilds, or cross-organizational architecture forums.
