Senior Scientist I - Automation Engineer (Lab Automation)

What you will do

• Design, configure, maintain, and optimize automated reaction-screening and experimental workflows.
• Translate chemist and process scientist requirements into executable automation protocols and closed-loop experiment cycles.
• Integrate robotics platforms, liquid-handling systems, analytical instruments, control software, and data systems.
• Develop or implement local interfaces and dashboards for experiment setup, monitoring, outputs, and alerts.
• Ensure reproducible, traceable capture of experiment parameters, metadata, and results in model-ready datasets.
• Collaborate with data science, modelling, robotics, IT/OT, infrastructure, and chemistry teams on optimization workflows and cloud data integration.

Requirements

• PhD or Master’s degree in Automation Engineering, Systems Engineering, Robotics, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong experience with laboratory automation platforms and orchestration systems.
• Solid Python and scripting skills for workflow control and automation logic.
• Familiarity with data pipelines, metadata schemas, experiment traceability, and FAIR data principles.
• Experience with dashboarding and front-end tools, plus knowledge of API design or file-based integrations.
• Ability to work in Nansha, Guangzhou, China.

• Understanding of chemical reaction workflows.
