What you will do

• Design, develop, test, document, and integrate system solutions combining software and hardware for computer-assisted and robotic-assisted surgery.
• Define user needs, business needs, use cases, requirements, functional architecture, and system-level design.
• Drive technical decisions and perform engineering analyses to select concepts that satisfy system requirements and clinical workflows.
• Plan and conduct user evaluations in laboratory surgical environments and translate findings into design recommendations.
• Identify and mitigate technical risks, product hazards, and failure modes while troubleshooting component integration.
• Provide subject-matter expertise to development teams and support the introduction of designs into surgical procedures.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience, or a master’s degree with no required prior experience.
• Unrestricted U.S. work authorization is required at hire and throughout employment; sponsorship is not available for roles below Principal level.
• Ability to work independently on moderately complex systems engineering tasks and influence cross-functional technical decisions.
• Experience or knowledge in requirements definition, use-case development, functional architecture, system design, and safety risk management.
• Ability to collaborate across software, hardware, clinical, and product development functions.
• Travel of less than 20% is expected for surgical observations, conferences, design collaboration, and professional development.

Nice to have

• Medical device industry or surgical technique experience.
• Experience with user evaluations, software or algorithm design, GUI design, scripting, Polarion, Miro, or Figma.
• Mechanical or electrical design, CAD, drawings, tolerance analysis, and rapid prototyping experience.
• Experience using AI-enabled tools for engineering analysis and system development with appropriate technical review.
• Project leadership, estimation, planning, and state-of-the-art technology assessment skills.
