What you will do

• Design and build reliability-focused frameworks, tooling, and standards to improve platform uptime and performance.
• Drive initiatives to shift from reactive incident response to proactive engineering, emphasizing prevention and fast recovery.
• Partner with engineering teams to embed reliability into system design and deployment workflows.
• Establish and evolve observability practices, including metrics, logging, alerting, and dashboards.
• Identify systemic risks and lead efforts to resolve them through automation and architectural improvements.
• Mentor engineers and participate in on-call rotations to reduce operational load over time.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience building and operating production-grade software in complex environments.
• Strong backend development experience in PHP.
• Proven track record with reliable, scalable, and highly available distributed systems.
• Practical experience with platform-level reliability solutions and observability tooling.
• Hands-on experience deploying and operating services in cloud environments (AWS or equivalent).
• Must be based in the UK.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with secure, compliance-aware development practices such as PCI, SOC 2, or OWASP.
