Staff SW Engineer (AI)

Location: Austin, Texas, United States; hybrid, with at least 3 days per week in the office. Travel required 5–10% of the time. Work hours vary according to department needs.

Salary: $134,500–$214,700 USD per year; the position may also be eligible for bonus and equity.

What you will do

• Design and develop scalable backend services, REST APIs, and platform capabilities for Intelligent Commerce products and merchant integrations.
• Build cloud-native applications using modern microservices architectures.
• Participate in technical design discussions, architecture decisions, and translating business and product requirements into technical implementations.
• Write, test, debug, and optimize high-quality software while contributing to reliability, scalability, observability, and operational excellence.
• Support CI/CD pipelines, development productivity improvements, code reviews, and engineering best practices.
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and architects; mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical skill development.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's Degree, or at least 2 years with an advanced degree, or 0 years with a PhD, or 8+ years of relevant work experience.
• 8+ years of experience building scalable distributed systems.
• Strong proficiency in Java and/or Python.
• Experience with microservices, REST APIs, Kubernetes, Docker, and CI/CD.
• Knowledge of cloud-native application development.
• Experience designing and supporting production systems.
• Strong software engineering and coding expertise, system design and troubleshooting skills, and the ability to deliver features independently.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, an ownership mindset, and operational excellence.
• Passion for mentoring peers and improving engineering practices.

Nice to have

• Exposure to AI-enabled systems, intelligent platforms, or large-scale commerce experiences.
• Familiarity with React or Angular.
