What you will do

• Design, build, and operate backend services, APIs, and platform components for DataOS.
• Create abstractions and self-service workflows for compute, storage, orchestration, and tenant resources.
• Automate provisioning, configuration, deployment, and operational recovery.
• Improve platform reliability, observability, security, and cloud cost efficiency.
• Contribute to distributed systems supporting batch, streaming, and interactive workloads.
• Own capabilities from design through production operation while collaborating with product managers, architects, data engineers, and platform users.

Requirements

• 5 or more years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong programming skills in Go, Java, Python, or a similar language.
• Experience building backend services, APIs, microservices, or distributed systems.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS.
• Familiarity with automated testing, CI/CD, containers, production operations, and on-call support.
• Based in Toronto, Canada, with the ability to independently deliver and operate moderately complex technical capabilities.

Nice to have

• Experience with data platforms, infrastructure platforms, or internal developer tools.
• Experience with Kubernetes or infrastructure-as-code technologies.
• Familiarity with Kafka, Flink, Spark, Trino, EMR, Airflow, or Temporal.
• Experience with observability, service-level objectives, production reliability, infrastructure security, or cloud cost optimization.
• Experience building simple user interfaces or developer portals.
