Senior Software Developer (Database Engine)

Location: Fully remote with flexible working hours

Develops new database systems focused on data management and distributed systems.

What you will do

• Design and implement core database components, including query optimizers, query engines, and storage layers.
• Build relational operators, vectorized and compiled execution, resource scheduling, recovery mechanisms, indexes, and data-spilling systems.
• Develop distributed algorithms for transaction protocols, data replication, and fault tolerance.
• Analyze open-source database products and academic research in data management.
• Write design documents and validate proposals through cross-reviews and prototypes.
• Share technical knowledge through blog posts and conference talks.

Requirements

• Strong knowledge of Java and readiness to learn new languages and tooling.
• Solid understanding of foundational algorithms and data structures.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to evaluate technical trade-offs against product goals.
• Ability to communicate in English in written and spoken form.
• Thoughtful, empathetic approach to partnering with teammates on challenging technical problems.

Nice to have

• Research publications.
• Experience with databases or distributed systems.
• Experience with parallel algorithms and concurrency.
• Experience with big data stacks such as Apache Spark or Apache Flink.
