SUE Technician (Engineering)

Location: On-site in Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse, or Ithaca, NY

Salary: $24.00 - $30.00 an hour

What you will do

• Operate and maintain electromagnetic induction and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) equipment to map subsurface utilities.
• Interpret utility prints and design plans to accurately map infrastructure.
• Lead daily field operations and manage field crews to ensure project accuracy.
• Prepare detailed daily reports, field sketches, and electronic forms.
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary project teams to identify SUE service opportunities.
• Perform QA/QC on final SUE deliverables and manage record archiving.

Requirements

• AAS or BS degree in land surveying, engineering, geology, forestry, or landscape architecture.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a related role with demonstrated management experience in utility design.
• Previous SUE experience within an engineering design environment.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and ability to operate company vehicles.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Proficiency in utility designation, records research, and field documentation.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, Carlson, or Inroads software.
• OSHA Safety certifications.
• Experience with DOT, municipal, or public utility projects.
