TL;DR
Director Of Autonomy (Robotics): Leading the technical direction, execution, and growth of autonomy systems for autonomous vehicles in complex maritime environments with an accent on perception, motion planning, and controls. Focus on scaling systems from prototype to fielded mission capabilities and coordinating multi-agent autonomy.
Location: Hybrid in Greater Boston area; U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a security clearance required
Salary: $225,000 β $250,000 + Equity & Bonus

What you will do
- Own the technical direction for autonomy systems across perception, planning, controls, and vehicle-level decision-making.
- Define autonomy architecture, development standards, and integration strategies across multiple engineering teams.
- Lead technical tradeoffs between performance, safety, reliability, and compute constraints for real-world maritime operations.
- Oversee development of navigation, collision avoidance, target following, and multi-vessel coordination.
- Mentor a high-performing team of robotics, perception, planning, and controls engineers.
- Drive the maturation of autonomy from prototype capabilities into reliable, repeatable, fielded systems.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in robotics, autonomy, unmanned systems, aerospace, or defense technology.
- Extensive technical background in perception, motion planning, control systems, and autonomous architecture.
- Proven experience leading engineering teams from a technical perspective.
- U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- Bachelor's degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical/Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with Linux-based development and modern software engineering practices.
Nice to have
- Advanced degree in a related technical field.
- Experience with autonomous surface vessels or maritime domain awareness.
- Familiarity with ROS2, DDS, MOOS-IvP, or distributed robotics architectures.
- Experience with multi-agent autonomy or swarm robotics.
- Active or prior security clearance.
