TL;DR

Remote Sensing & Nuclear Activity Detection Engineer (Nuclear Engineering): Supporting mission-critical efforts to prevent, detect, and deter nuclear proliferation worldwide with an accent on technical analysis of nuclear signatures and remote sensing modalities. Focus on integrating airborne, orbital, and space-based systems to identify and characterize nuclear-related operations for the DOE/NNSA.

Location: Must be based in Washington, DC (On-site)

Salary: $185,000 – $195,000 annually

What you will do

  • Provide expert technical advice on tritium operations and nuclear detection strategies.
  • Conduct technical analysis of nuclear signatures including radiological, spectral, thermal, and seismic modalities.
  • Support program reviews and conferences for mission-critical non-proliferation efforts.
  • Integrate remote sensing systems for identifying and assessing nuclear-related operations from stand-off ranges.
  • Collaborate with program teams on complex-wide program proposals and assessments.

Requirements

  • Active Q or Top Secret clearance required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline.
  • 20+ years of direct experience in nuclear detection, remote sensing, or non-proliferation.
  • Proven experience with DOE SRS tritium operations.
  • Deep knowledge of nuclear signatures and sensing modalities like gamma/neutron detection and hyperspectral imaging.
  • Strong modeling, analysis, and technical writing skills.

Nice to have

  • Master’s or PhD in nuclear engineering, physics, or related field.
  • Experience with DOE/NNSA, DoD, NASA, or the Intelligence Community.
  • Familiarity with nuclear fuel cycle processes and proliferation pathways.
  • Hands-on experience with SAR, radiation detection instrumentation, or AI/ML anomaly detection.
  • Knowledge of orbital mechanics and space mission design.
