Software and Modelling Engineer - Space Engineering (C++)

Location: Stevenage, United Kingdom; full-time onsite presence required 4 days per week, with 1 day remote.

What you will do

• Design, develop, maintain, integrate, and verify on-board C++ software for the ESA Vigil satellite programme.
• Develop and maintain software models and simulation environments.
• Support hardware-in-the-loop design, integration, and testing activities.
• Debug real-time software in Linux environments and contribute to CI/CD pipelines.
• Design multi-process and multi-threaded applications and execute unit and integration testing.
• Collaborate with systems, avionics, and verification engineers while maintaining technical documentation aligned with ECSS standards.

Requirements

• University degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• At least 4 years of industrial software engineering experience; 5+ years preferred.
• Strong C++ development and software design experience, plus working knowledge of Java for testing activities.
• Experience with real-time software in Linux/Red Hat environments, hardware-in-the-loop systems, CI/CD, and multi-process or multi-threaded architectures.
• Knowledge of software testing methodologies, unit testing frameworks, OOAD with UML, SDLC, design patterns, and machine-to-machine communication protocols.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills in English.

Nice to have

• Experience with spacecraft avionics systems and ESA or other space programmes.
• Knowledge of ECSS software standards, particularly ECSS PUS.
• Experience with SpaceWire, MIL-STD-1553, or CAN Bus communication protocols.
